It’s easy to change icons of your Windows 7 system tray

The Notification area in Windows 7 is also known by the name of ‘System tray’. This area at the right of the taskbar hosts a set of small icons of running programs displayed by default at the bottom right corner of a Windows 7 desktop.
Along with the regular display of date and time, running program icons are also displayed for a quick view of the status. Apart from these, small text bubbles can be visible that popup to notify in case any immediately any action is required.
Windows 7 comes with a wider array of choices to set and customize the icons in the system tray in to meet both design and utility.
The following points show ways to customize notification area or system tray to decide type and quantity of icons to be displayed. Along with it ways are provided to turn notifications on or off. Let’s have a peek into the procedure:
  • On the left of the system tray, click on the small arrow pointing upward. A box pops up containing a list of icons, and a Customize link. Just click the link.
  • As you click on the link a window opens with a list of icons to be displayed in the system tray. Scroll through the list icons with notifications turned on for various programs.
  • Each program can be customized by selecting ‘show’ or ‘hide’ icon and ‘notifications’, or only ‘show notifications’.
  • At the bottom there is a ‘Turn system icons on or off’ link. If you click the link, a window appears where you have the option to remove the icon completely from the system tray.
  • Once customizing is done, click on ‘OK’.
Hence your Windows 7 system tray or notification area gets customized successfully.
